Common questions
If yours is not here, call us. We answer the phone.
Do I need an appointment?
For anything other than a tire changeover, yes. We are usually booking two to three days out. Emergencies we will try to fit in the same day — call and ask.
Can I bring my own parts?
Yes, but we cannot warranty them, and if the part turns out to be wrong you still pay for the labour. We will tell you honestly whether it is worth it — often our supplier price is close to what you would pay online.
How long does a safety certificate take?
About an hour if nothing needs fixing. If the vehicle fails we give you a written list of what has to be done. The certificate is valid for 36 days from the inspection date.
Do you work on European cars?
Yes. BMW, Mercedes, Audi and Volkswagen are routine for us. We have the diagnostic software for most of them. We do not take on Porsche or anything exotic.
Do you work on hybrids or electric vehicles?
We service hybrids for brakes, tires, suspension and regular maintenance. We do not do high voltage battery or drivetrain work on hybrids or EVs.
My check engine light is on. Is it safe to drive?
A steady light usually means you can drive carefully to us. A flashing light means stop driving and call — that can damage the catalytic converter quickly. We cannot tell you which it is over the phone, so err on the side of caution.
Will you match another shop's quote?
Not usually. We would rather explain what is in our price. If a quote seems far off ours, bring it in and we will tell you what the difference is likely to be.
Do you offer towing?
We do not tow ourselves, but we work with a local operator and can arrange it. Call us before you call a tow truck and we will sort it out.
Can I wait while the work is done?
There is a small waiting area with coffee. For anything over about two hours we would suggest the courtesy car or a lift home.
Do you do oil changes without an appointment?
If you arrive before 10 am on a weekday we can usually fit one in. After that it depends what is on the hoists.
